## What is Capoeira?

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that combines elements of dance, acrobatics, and music. Recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2014, capoeira is practiced worldwide and is characterized by fluid movements, the berimbau (musical bow), and a ritualized sparring game called "jogo da capoeira."

- **Educators (professores, mestres, contramestres)**: Manage students, track attendance, organize graduations, handle payments
- **Travelers**: Find capoeira classes in any city worldwide

## Key Concepts

- **Grupo**: A capoeira organization or school with its own graduation system and methodology (e.g., Angola, Regional, Contemporânea)
- **Núcleo**: A specific training location within a grupo, with address, schedule, and responsible educator
- **Educador**: A capoeira teacher — may hold titles such as Aluno, Instrutor, Professor, Contra-Mestre, or Mestre depending on the group's graduation system
- **Corda**: The belt/graduation level in capoeira (varies by group style — colored ropes or cords are used instead of karate-style belts)
- **Jogo**: The sparring game played at the center of the roda (circle)
- **Roda**: The circle formed by capoeiristas and musicians where the jogo takes place
- **Berimbau**: The single-string bow instrument that leads the capoeira roda
- **Mestre**: The highest traditional title in capoeira — a master of the art
